Thank you in advance for all your help and hard work! Your energy and enthusiasm are necessary for the AFMAA event to be a success. We wouldn't be able to do it without you!

Training

This year's AFMAA training will be done on-line through the LEARN website. We have created training modules for your specific roles as well as modules for the event logistics and new curriculum. Please note, it is mandatory for all volunteers to review each training module in full before Saturday, March 31st.

Early/Late Shifts for Volunteers:

You will be assigned a Primary Role, and set-up or clean up duties for the day of the AFMAA. In addition to your Primary Role, you may also be assigned a Secondary Role. Please read the instructions in the volunteer room asigned to you - HH 334, 373 or MC 1056 after you have signed in, to see what you should be doing throughout the day.


When you arrive:

  1. Go directly to your designated volunteer room (HH 334, HH 373, or MC 1056)
    • Sign in
    • Pick up your nametag and lanyard
    • Pick up your SAF Shirt, which identifies you as a volunteer
    • Read the instructions and updates posted for the day
    • Check the master list of volunteer roles - your role may have changed!
    • Review the specific duties assigned to you
    • You can leave your belongings in these rooms as there will be a room supervisor present at all times

Miscellaneous:

  • Be sure to take lunch at your designated time. NOTE: Lunch is for VOLUNTEERS ONLY!! Please do not invite friends if they are NOT AFMAA Volunteers. Let's make sure there's enough lunch for all our volunteers!
  • If you feel you need a break, please take a break, but be sure to let your Team Lead know. Take your break you the volunteer room you were assigned.
  • Please do not answer a question if you do not feel comfortable in answering. Forward the question to your Team Lead and either he or she will answer the question or will pass it along to Patty, Kelly, or Jessica.
  • Please keep your shirt and your uWaterloo lanyard at the end of the day as our thank you gift to you.
  • HH 334, 373 and MC 1056 will always have a volunteer present to supervise, so feel free to leave your coats and personal belongins for the day.
  • Bring your AFMAA training manual with you on the day of the AFMAA as easy reference!

If you can't make it on March 31st, you must let us know ASAP! if you are sick or cannot makie it the day of March 31st, please let Patty know either by text or email.

Volunteer Role Descriptions

Role as an SAF Ambassador

  • Each one of you, regardless of you role, is a representative of the AFM program, the School of Accounting and Finance and the University of Waterloo.
  • Remember, everything you say and do is a reflection of uWaterloo, the School of Accountin and Finance and the AFM program
  • Provide your student perspective whenever possible, highlighting on positive experiences!
    • Focus on good times and stay away from negative jokes and stereotypes.
  • Avoid speaking negatively about other universities, colleges, or programs.
  • You don't need to be experts on the AFM program, just warm and welcoming ambassadors for the School of Accounting and Finance

SAF Ambassador

  • Team Leads: Patty Mah, Kelly Millar, and Jessica Chow
  • Ancillary role of all AFMAA volunteers
  • Main responsibilities:
    • Answer visitor questions
    • Assist with set-up and clean up where needed
    • Encourage visitors to participate in the Parent Information Sessions
    • Encourage visitors to ask questions at the Academic and Student Life Fair located on the 3 floors of the SAF building
    • Assist with crowd control by directing visitors between the SAF and TC buildings and encouraging visitors to move into the SAF 1st floor classrooms (HH1101, 1102, 1104, 1106, 1108) or the TC ground leve to ask questions of the student volunteers
    • Encourage parents to stay within the SAF and TC building areas

AFM
The School of Accounting and Finance is the only English speaking professional school of its kind in Canada. We offer 2 undergraduate (Accounting and Financial Management and Computing and Financial Management) and 3 graduate (Master of Accounting; Master of Taxation; PhD in Accounting) programs to provide students with the technical, analytical, evaluative, and communication skills needed to prepare for successful careers in public accounting, finance, industry, government and not-for-profit sectors. In conjunction with the Faculties of Mathematics and Science, the School also administers 2 undergraduate programs (Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy; Biotechnology/Chartered Accountancy) and 1 graduate program (Master of Quantitative Finance).
